The
universe oscillated in and out within a millisecond. A bolt of invisible
lightning surged into my chest as mercury eyes bored into mine. Even though the
commons area was packed, at that moment, there was only him, Kincade Courcier.
My heart pounded faster as he slowly walked up to me—his expression cautious.
Time stood still as I attempted to weave through my feelings. I still loved
him, without a doubt. Rage also boiled to my core from him dipping out on me.
“Cali….” Cade exclaimed. The sound of my name coming from
him brought on a flood of emotions. I understood what he’d said, but had
trouble speaking. Hurt emanated from his features, then his eyes darted to the
side. “Let’s take a walk.”
Several couples were leaving the room. You’d think with so
many here, the place would be noisy. Not the case, you could hear a pin drop.
The only sound came from Zimmerman and his team as they moved about and gave
directions. Zimmerman was so wound up with excitement, he looked like he might
explode. He had life so confused.
I glanced in Stefani and Tobias’ direction. They had already
left. Cade reached for my hand, but I kept them plastered to my side. He blew
out his breath. I trudged, following him outside. Cade took me to the large outdoor
pool area. I feared that a cameraman would pursue us as they had with Becca and
other couples. So far, the coast was clear, only a few staff lingered. It
spiked my suspicions, but made no difference—I was certain hidden cameras were
everywhere. At least I didn’t have to worry about one right in my face when I
was about to have one of the most important conversations in my life.
